Biologically friendly tissue conditioner resistant to bacterial contamination using the material derived from plants
Tissue conditioners are materials used to promote healing of the damaged tissue that supports denture structures. However, many microorganisms such as Candida albicansare known to thrive on the surface of degraded tissue conditioners.
●Keyword: Tissue conditioner, dental, Igusa, Juncus powder, anti-microbiological ●Description Tissue conditioners are materials widely used to promote healing of the damaged tissue that supports denture structures. However, many microorganisms such as Candida albicansare are known to thrive on the surface of degraded tissue conditioners, and they often induce oral stomatitis and systemic diseases, such as aspiration pneumonia in compromised elderly people. Introduction of antibacterial function to the tissue conditioner is an effective way to prevent microorganisms from accumulating on its surface and to avoid its holder from having the diseases mentioned above. Because the tissue conditioner contacts directly with the inside of patient’s mouth, the material used to add the antibacterial function should be biologically friendly. We found that a tissue conditioner with Igusa powders in it has fairly strong antibacterial property and applied a patent for the finding. ●Results Anti-microbiological property (vs Candida albicans)
All mixtures tasted after incubation showed significant anti-microbiological activity that was concentration-dependent.
Surface morphology of the specimens

The SEM observation showed that the number of C.albicans on the mixtures had drastically decreased. ●Expectations: We look for a company who would like to use our invention, and manufacture and sell tissue conditioners with Igusa powders. If you require, we are able to introduce a company who may supply Igusa powders.
