Drug delivery system regulated by ultrasound for coronary thrombolysis
Drug delivery system regulated by ultrasound for coronary thrombolysis -Novel thrombolytic therapy by DDS with remarkable reduction of tPA activity-

Description
Thrombolysis in acute coronary syndrome has advantages of universal availability and rapidity compared to percutaneous coronary intervention. Howeverer, there are several disadvantages in thrombolysis such as the low reperfusion rate and the occurrence of hemorrhagic complications.
Researchers at Nara Medical University and Kyoto University have developed the novel drug delivery system (DDS) regulated by ultrasound for coronary thrombolysis. Compared to the conventional thrombolysis with tPA, the DDS has the greater ability to recanalize the thrombotic occluded coronary artery with the reduction of tPA activity at the non-target area.

Advantage
1. Higher rate of successfull thrombolysis (70%) compared to the conventional method (10%) in swine ACS model
2. Remarkable reduction of tPA activity (75%)
3. Complete recovery of tPA activity by US irradiation only at the target area
4. Possible ability of reducing hemorrhagic complication by suppressing tPA activity at the non-target area
5. High efficiency of tPA delivery to the thrombus site (about threefold higher than free tPA)

Business Model
“Instead of Ballon Catheter” which solute adverse prognosis of infarct blood vessel. This leads immediate initiation of therapy in ambulance. This can be used for not only Acute Myocardial Infarction, but also Pulmonary Thromboembolic, Leg Vein Thrombosis.

Potential Application
Rapid initiation after the onset of Acute Coronary Syndrome (e.g. in the ambulance)
for the old patients (higher risk of hemorrhagic complications than the young patients)
the other thrombotic  and embolic diseases (e.g. cerebral infarction, pulmonary embolism, peripheral arterial thrombosis)
