Attractant for pest fruit flies
Attractant Compounds for Solanaceous Fruit Fry

α-Ionone and α-ionol are known as potential male lures for the solanaceous fruit fly Bactrocera latifrons.  However, the attractiveness of these compounds is not strong enough for a practical use as a mass trapping agent. Isophorone and isophorol, which have a partial skeletal structure of α-ionone/α-ionol (i.e. trimethylcyclohexene), were found to be attractive to B. latifrons males, and their mixtures with α-ionol exhibited stronger activity than any of the individual compounds. Further the hybrid compounds  such as 3-oxo-α-ionone, 3-oxo-α-ionol and 3-hydroxy-α-ionone were highly active both as attractants and phagostimulants for males. These results suggest that above compounds can be utilized as specific male attractants for B. latifrons.
